Skills: • Editing: light, medium, heavy; structural and stylistic to ensure coherence and clarity • Proofreading: identifying mechanical errors to produce a clean document • Finely-tuned forensic writing skills: factual, clear, accurate text with consistency in form and meaning Personal attributes that support my skills: • I am vigilant with a keen eye for detail. • I am attentive - I hear and understand the clients’ needs. • I am an excellent communicator: roles are clear, time frames are discussed, deliverables are monitored, changes are negotiated or explained. • I am flexible, as are my skills which transfer easily to a range of contexts. I have finely-tuned forensic writing skills which means I can deliver work that is accurate and consistent in its message. This is needed in many contexts outside of medico-legal work. I have a keen eye for detail and a high level of vigilance in recognising errors. I pay attention to what the client wants so that I can meet the service need correctly. Excellent communication skills mean everyone knows where everything is at and my flexible nature leaves room for open discussion and transfer of skills to a range of contexts.

As an editor, proofreader and writing consultant, I am ethical, vigilant, disciplined and reliable. I deliver work on time and produce documents that are clear, impartial and accurate. I adhere to high standards of practice and I remain informed of best practice in the field.

My commitment to professional practice and continued professional development is supported by membership with the Professional Editors’ Guild (PEG) and the South African Freelancers’ Association (Safrea). Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) underpins adherence to professional codes of conduct.

I have worked as a freelance writing consultant, editor and proofreader for more than 10 years in the medico-legal field. My freelance work includes editing of academic texts (for examination and for publication), editing of educational materials and proofreading for online publications. Prior to entering the world of wordsmiths, I ran a successful health-care practice as a reflexologist, delivered training in soft skills and worked as a community social worker.
