Join PEG for a webinar about aspects of noun, noun-verb, (gerund) and pronoun usage.
Date: Thursday, 14 November 2024
Time: 18:00–20:00
Place: Online (Zoom meeting)
Facilitator: John Linnegar
Level: Intermediate
CPD hours: PEG members will earn CPD hours according to the criteria published on the PEG website. Attendees of the live

unable to attend the webinar live may submit their receipt as proof of having received the recording.
Prerequisites/foundational knowledge: Introductory/intermediate, depending on an attendee’s familiarity with or competence at using verbs in a variety of contexts. Or their lack of/need for sound grammatical reasons for the corrections they make.
Pre-webinar materials: A mix of short exercises, either for prework or to be completed during the workshop, will be shared in advance.
About our facilitator
John Linnegar has been a teacher and trainer, and a passionate improver of writers’ words, during a career spanning 40+ years. As a mother-tongue speaker of English, he has published two textbooks on English usage: Engleish, our Engleish: Common Errors in South African English and how to resolve them (Pharos, 2013) and, with Ken McGillivray, grammar, punctuation and all that jazz … (MLA Publishers, 2019). He has also been a regular contributor of articles on English Grammar to PEGboard and of presentations to SENSE, MET, ITI and IPEd members.
About the webinar
During this webinar, some of the thornier aspects of incorrect usage of nouns, gerunds and pronouns (and related adjectives and prepositions) will be covered. A set of sentences containing typical errors involving these parts of speech will be sent to attendees beforehand; it will be worked through during the session. And if anyone does send in any questions or problems relating to these parts of speech beforehand, or raises them during the Q&A session, these will be responded to. Hopefully, by the end of this webinar, the attendees will be armed with sound grammatical reasons for the corrections they make to authors’ incorrect usage of nouns, gerunds and pronouns.
