Coffee Conversation: Imposters Unite!
IMPOSTERS UNITE!
How imposter syndrome creeps into professional life
Now you may not immediately relate to this topic as editors of long standing, but as humans we do err and we do take on new frontiers, which can lead to confusion, loss of confidence and diffidence.
So what do we do when we’re knocked back by life?
Do your personality or character traits dictate how to manage new areas of work and recreation, mistakes or disputes? Or does something else more scurrilous come into play at challenging times in our lives?
Enter the imposter!
For many newbies to PEG, the fear of being ‘found out’ or feeling a fraud may be fresh, and you’ll know the terror of facing your first job. The good news is that it is more prevalent among high achievers, students, professionals in competitive fields and people from marginalised groups.
According to the peerless source Google, 70% of the world’s population experience imposter syndrome at least once in their lives. That makes it about as normal as fear on a first date.
According to Dr Valerie Young, we’ll recognise traits of the five main types: The Perfectionists, the Experts, the Natural Genius, the Soloist and the Superhuman.
Get ready to have a natter in our Coffee Conversation about the times we have bravely faced this and what successes or breakthroughs we’ve had as a result.
Please join us for a friendly chat among ourselves on FRIDAY, 7 NOVEMBER at 11 am SAST. All you have to do is register on the link below and have a cuppa in hand.
