Accreditation Test 2020 – Part 1: Grammar, Editing, General questions
Join PEG for a webinar on the PEG accreditation test 2020 as preparation for sitting the 2021 test or simply as a ‘refresher’.
Focus: The purpose of this webinar is to demonstrate how questions should be answered, what to do and what not to do, and to clarify how candidates can best prepare themselves for the next accreditation test.

CPD hours: Attendees will earn 3 CPD hours for attending the webinar; those who listen to the recording only will earn 1 CPD hour.
About our facilitators
Cathy Robertson has taught high school English as well as lectured English at a teachers’ training college. She also spent many years at a TVET college, first lecturing Communication and Public Relations and then retiring as Vice Principal: Innovation and Development (Skills Development). During this time, she also wrote textbooks for English and communication. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Critical Linguistics, she obtained a PhD in Curriculum Studies and is a research associate at Stellenbosch University. She has delivered numerous papers, published chapters in academic books on metaphor and academic writing as well as academic articles. She spent many years as an external moderator for Umalusi, the Department of Higher Education and Training’s quality assurance body, as well as writing two chapters of the national annual report on internal assessment practices. At PEG, Cathy has mentored seven members in academic editing and is also a member of the team of accreditation test setters and markers. Cathy is a research associate at Stellenbosch University and has delivered numerous papers, published chapters in academic books on metaphor and academic writing as well as academic articles. For the past several years, she has been a member of the editorial board and the managing editor of an academic journal named JOVACET under the auspices of the University of the Western Cape.
John Linnegar has been a teacher and trainer, and a setter of more tests and examinations than he cares to remember, during a career spanning 40+ years. He has also acted as an external marker and moderator for examinations set by the Western Cape Department of Education. With Cathy Robertson, he was a co-examiner of PEG’s inaugural accreditation test and also one of the markers. He was also an examiner and marker of the 2021 and 2022 accreditation tests.
About the workshop
The purpose of the webinar/workshop is to demonstrate how questions should be answered, what to do and what not to do, and to clarify how candidates can prepare themselves for the next accreditation test. The vehicle for achieving this purpose will be the questions on language/grammar and on structural, content, stylistic and copy editing in PEG’s 2020 test. It will be useful for those who intend participating to work through these questions beforehand, providing answers where possible, in order to derive maximum benefit from the test. Those who sat the 2020 test should bring their completed tests to the webinar/workshop to enable them to discover where they could have performed better. (Note: The test questions on proofreading and general topics will be covered in Part 2 on 23 August.)

Cancellation policy
If members are unable to attend this webinar after having registered and paid for it, a full refund is possible if cancellations are received by Sharon Rose by no later than 12:00 on 7 August. Once the final number of attendees has been confirmed on the eve of the webinar, no refunds are possible.
In addition, should you be prevented from participating in full or in part on the day of the webinar owing to Eskom loadshedding, you will be entitled to take either the same webinar or another on the 2023 webinar programme. When this occurs, the onus will be on you to inform the webinar coordinator of your disqualification on this ground and to specify which alternative webinar you would like to transfer your registration to.
Remember, though, that as a would-be or part-participant on the day, you will in any event receive the audio recording of the entire event plus PDFs of the PPT slides.
