Editing fiction: the facts and fantasies

Prerequisites/foundational knowledge: No prior knowledge is required. Some editors (expert and also beginners) are still scared of editing fiction and the webinar will provide information to encourage expert editors to commence with editing fiction. It will also help beginners to learn about this field.
CPD hours: PEG members will earn CPD hours according to the criteria published on the PEG website. Attendees of the live presentation will receive a certificate confirming their attendance and the duration of the webinar. Those who are unable to attend the webinar live may submit their receipt as proof of having received the recording.

About the webinar
Sheena Carnie will share her take on some of the dos and don’ts of fiction editing, the kinds of things editors need to pay particular attention to, the things they should leave alone, why you shouldn’t be scared to tackle this type of work, and some of the things she has learned since starting fiction editing ten years ago.
About our facilitator
Sheena studied journalism because she enjoyed creative writing at school, but, as it turned out, her career has been focused on editing and production – mostly on magazines – and she does very little actual writing. She is currently contemplating writing a book, but it will be non-fiction. Maybe fiction will come later. For the last 20 or so years she has been editor of Ski-Boat magazine which focuses on deep sea fishing. She was also editor of Flyfishing magazine until that closed down about eight years ago. However, more relevant to tonight’s webinar, in 2008 she was asked to edit a non-fiction coffee-table style book, and so began a whole new chapter – one that she particularly enjoys and which has mostly been able to plug the holes in her income from her day job. As an aside, Sheena reads only paper books for pleasure.
