Secondary sources are documents that you did not read yourself but that were referred to in documents that you did read and that are in your list of references. Referring to a secondary source is also called “indirect quotation”. If you quote the secondary author’s actual words, you need to give the page number in the secondary source. Check your referencing style guide but the general format is as follows.
- (Author-1 2010, pp. 205-207, as cited in Author-2, 2021, p. 29)
- OR (Author-1, 2010, in Author-2, 2021: 29)
Only Author-2 is included in the list of references.
