PEG has a number of membership categories.
- Accredited text editors (ATEs)
- Associate members
- Full members
- Student members
First-time members do not have to give any assurance of their experience or skill; they are automatically given associate membership (if they are not students) or student membership (which needs proof of registration as a student with an institution). Associate members can improve their status by meeting specific criteria for full membership or by passing PEG’s accreditation test to become accredited text editors (ATEs). Click here to find out more about ATEs or here to find out more about PEG’s accreditation scheme, which requires continuing professional development.
PEG encourages all members to commit to continuing professional development in order to maintain high standards of editing practice and professionalism. Although they don’t have to improve their membership status, all members are required to maintain at least 20 hours of continuing professional development activities in every 18 months in order to have an official PEG email signature and an entry in the Directory of Members Services.
Therefore, you are likely to receive better editing from ATEs or experts who have entries in the Directory of Members Services and signature blocks with the PEG logo and a current membership year, like the example below.
Click here to find an expert in the directory. The directory allows you to specify the area, subject or skills you require and read more about the editors who specialise in them.
