The PEG events have such a lot of detail in them about dates and times, and ‘More info’ about presenters and scope. Wouldn’t you like all of that to show in your Outlook calendar so you don’t have to keep checking the PEG website to find out what’s happening next?

Well, you can. Here’s how:

  1. Open your Outlook classic If it looks something like the screenshot below, click on the right-arrow at the top far left (which I have marked by a red box) to see the Preview pane. The Preview Pane pops up. If you want it to show always, click on the pin shape at the top right of the pane.

  1. In the ‘Home’ tab, look for ‘Add & Share’ (I had to click on the three dots in the More… button) and select ‘Add’. A submenu pops up, as shown on the far right in the screenshot below and enlarged in the screenshot below that.

  1. Select ‘From internet’. A ’New Internet Calendar Subscription’ dialog box pops up. Paste PEG’s events URL into it, as shown below:

  1. Your calendar and the PEG events calendar will probably show in Outlook in two different-coloured columns, as shown below. If no extra calendar shows, check that ‘Other Calendar’ is ticked at the bottom left of your calendar. Note that it will show your default email address, not the PEG calendar address. You can see that the two items for 21 and 28 October in the PEG calendar at the top of this FAQ are shown in the new calendar.

  1. If you like, you can rename the new calendar by clicking on the email address under Other Calendar in the Preview Pane and selecting ‘Rename Calendar’ in the dropdown menu that pops up, as shown below (note the other options available to you too):

Dropdown menu options are: Open in new window (alt+w), New calendar (alt+n), Hide this calendar (alt+h), Overlay (alt+o), Colour (alt+c), Rename calendar (alt+r), Copy calendar (alt+c), Move calendar (alt+m(. Delete calendar (alt+d), Move up (alt+u), Move down (alt+o), Share (alt+s), and Properites (alt+p)

  1. The calendar’s name and colour change, in the Preview Pane and in the calendar, as shown below.

  1. If you want the events in both calendars to show in your main calendar, ie to ‘View in Overlay Mode’, click on the left arrow in the name bar at the top of the ‘PEG Events’ calendar, as shown enlarged below:

  1. The calendars are merged, as shown below.

  1. You can hover your cursor over the calendar appointment to see a brief screentip about it, as shown below.

  1. If you double-click on the PEG event, you will see the (unformatted) details of the Appointment taken from the PEG website, as in the example below:

Tip: Past events do not show in the PEG calendar so, if you need to remember the ones you attended for your CPD records, copy them into your personal calendar.
