About the editor

About me

Work experience

I am a freelance editor and I am committed to assist you in communicating your messages clearly, logically and confidently. I am a full member of the Professional Editors' Guild (PEG) as well as a member of the South African Translators’ Institute (SATI) and the South African Language and Applied Linguistics Society (SALALS). I can help you write a well-structured and correctly formulated presentation, thesis, report or novel according to the conventions of the text-type in which you are working. Therefore, I am committed to my continuing professional development in editing, proofreading and translating a variety of text-types. I frequently attend webinars and courses to ensure that I provide professional and quality services to my clients as the following recommendation of Khotalang Moseli, a postgraduate student at the UFS, testifies: 'Dr Mostert edited and proofread my work and ensured that it meets the required prescribed standard as set by the institution. Dr Mostert worked very closely with me to ensure that her services are not contrary to the arrangements I made with my supervisors. This working relationship was fruitful and I am grateful for her guidance and support as she ensured that my thesis is quality and professional'. More information and recommendations about my services can be accessed at www.editA1.com.

I have 30 years’ experience in editing a variety of text types and in conducting research on the acquisition of English as a second and as a foreign language; on assessment and language programme evaluation; on the development of effective education management and quality assurance strategies; and on the development of learning and teaching material according to curriculum requirements. I have 32 years’ experience in teaching and mentoring English teachers and subject advisers at district and at national level. I have three years’ experience in mentoring academic writing consultants to support postgraduate students in developing their academic writing skills. Recently, I have facilitated the development of lecturers’ article writing skills during a retreat. My experience as facilitator and presenter of workshops to education managers and to non-governmental national and international partners totals 22 years. I have been doing translations from English to Afrikaans texts during the course of my career, especially after having completed courses in translation methodology and practice.
